Newport City Council: Newport is a thriving, growing city and is an exciting place to work with its diverse population. Our recent Estyn inspection for Education was exceptionally positive, with senior leadership described as strong and having high aspirations for children. The ALN and Inclusion Teams within which the EPS sits were described as ‘highly skilled and knowledgeable’ with the LA offering ‘strong support for children with ALN’.
Newport EP Service: Would you like to join us, to be part of an innovative, forward thinking team with excellent supervision and development opportunities? We are:
• A small and growing, supportive team consisting of a PEP, Senior EP, EPs, Assistant EP and Trainee EPs. We adopt flexible and hybrid working practices and meet in person on a weekly basis for either team meetings, peer-led supervision, clinical supervision or peer-led CPD. • Committed to high quality, applied psychology, supporting clusters of schools to extend their inclusive practice through consultation and training. Children and their families are at the heart of what we do.• Involved in leading projects at a wider LA strategic level, including a successful EBSA project, and developing Foundation Phase inclusive practice, with more projects in the pipeline. We also have a thriving ELSA population, and provide ELSA and Attachment Aware training and supervision, as well as Trauma Informed supervision.• We enjoy effective, collaborative working relationships with the Inclusion Advisory team, as well as with colleagues from the third sector, social care and health.• EPs enjoy working in Newport for the variety of work, the relationships that we build with schools and opportunities for joint working with other EPs.
Rewards and benefits:
• A comprehensive induction programme which includes a maingrade ‘buddy’ as well as increased access to supervision for the first term and for newly qualified EPs, a reduced caseload (0.8) for the first year.• An extensive CPD programme involving monthly peer-led CPD, whole service and cross service training events as well as opportunities to develop areas of special interest in line with the council’s priorities. • A comprehensive supervision programme consisting of peer-led and line manager supervision.• SPA points 1 and 2 are awarded following successful practice typically within the first 3 years.• 25 days annual leave rising to 29 days after 5 years’ continual service in Local Government (EP doctorate counts as 3 years’ service) and 32 days after 10 years, plus bank holidays.• Generous Local Government salary related pension offered, with AVCs part funded by Newport.
Minimum requirements (all of the following must be met):
• Psychology degree (or BPS equivalent); • Professional qualification in Educational Psychology (doctorate, masters or equivalent); • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (as qualified EPs). Trainee EPs in their 2nd or 3rd year will not yet be registered so do not need this requirement. • A current drivers’ licence and a car to travel to various settings.
