Newport City Council is looking to appoint a highly motivated and dedicated person to its support service team Gwent Education Multilingual Service (GEMS). You will be a part of the Authority's integrated inclusive provision for pupils from a global majority background including Asylum Seekers, Economic Migrants, Gypsies, Roma, and Travellers.
We are keen to recruit 1 full time Bilingual Teaching Assistant who is fluent in Malayalam.
Your role will be to support the language and learning of identified pupils at risk of under achievement. You will support the development of the multi-cultural ethos within schools, support new speakers of English and help pupils to overcome potential language barriers at home and school.
You will help newly arrived children adjust to school life and acquire English for social and academic purposes. You will help prepare learning resources for schools and the Service and provide support to parents and carers from a global majority background. You will be required to support pupils across the areas of Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Blaenau Gwent, Torfaen as well as in Newport, so a car is essential for the role.
It is desirable, that you have knowledge of how pupils develop and acquire English as an additional language and can demonstrate strong communication skills and a commitment to continuous learning.
The position is temporary due to being fully funded by a Welsh Government grant.
This position is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974) and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
